Annual Support Campaign

The YMCA of San Diego County is a non-profit organization serving one in every ten people in San Diego County each year.

The purpose of the YMCA’s Annual Support Campaign is to raise money for youth and family programs.

All funds generated remain with YMCA Youth & Family Services, allocated to support our programs throughout the year.

As the social services department of the YMCA of San Diego County, YMCA Youth & Family Services has been serving the San Diego community since 1970 and now reaches approximately 40,000 at-risk children, youth and family members each year. Our program areas include the prevention and treatment of child abuse, shelter care for troubled and homeless adolescents, basic living skills training, substance-abuse, gang, and teenage pregnancy prevention, counseling, training and mentoring, after-school programming, and much more.

There are two ways you can make a donation.

Project Areas

YMCA Youth & Family Services is organized into four major project areas:

Community Collaborations provides gang, teen pregnancy and child abuse prevention services throughout the County.  Programs are housed at the YMCA Youth & Community Center in North Park.  Community Collaborations includes:

  • Cyber Y and Mobile Sound Studio
  • Kinship Support Services Program
  • TLC Family Institute
  • Teen Link Community Project
  • Y-FRIENDz Mentoring Children of Prisoners
  • YMCA Youth & Community Center

Counseling Services provides comprehensive counseling and therapy services to individuals, couples, children and families, including eight school-based counseling programs.

Residential Services provides both temporary and long-term shelter and support services for youth with the goal of increasing self-sufficiency, positive relationships, academic achievement and personal growth.  Residential Services includes the following programs:

  • Oz San Diego runaway and homeless teen shelter (Clairemont)
  • Oz North Coast runaway and homeless teen shelter (Oceanside)
  • Turning Point Transitional Living Program (Central San Diego)
  • Mary’s Transitional Living Program (Escondido)
  • Independent Living Skills

School Outreach Services provides before and after school programming at elementary and middle school sites throughout the county.  These programs provide students with a safe place to participate in academic support and enrichment activities during the critical hours when many parents are at work.

How else is YFS funded?

YFS is primarily funded through government contracts and grants. However, this money does not always cover operating costs and there is limited flexible money to address specific needs of our programs. The Annual Support Campaign fills in these gaps.
