THE Y FOR
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
Every Gift Makes a Difference!
YMCA Youth & Family Services is committed to providing exceptional social service programs that build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Every dollar raised directly benefits runaway and homeless youth, current and former foster youth and other disadvantaged children, youth and families throughout San Diego County.
Your support is vital to the YMCA's effort to find solutions, transform lives and create lasting community impact. We can't do it without you!

The YMCA of San Diego County is a charitable,
not-for-profit organization established in 1882. Your local YMCA has since grown to become the second largest YMCA in the nation, with one of the only stand-alone social service departments. YMCA Youth & Family Services collaborates with YMCA branches, nonprofit partners and our local government to fill gaps in services and support community members in need.

YMCA Youth & Family Services is organized into three major program areas:
Click on a program below to find our more
Counseling & Family Support - YFS offers an array of free and or affordable family support and counseling services. We provide mental health support to families in need, assist kinship and relative caregivers, and prevent children from entering or reentering the Child Welfare system.
School & Community Enrichment - YFS provides elementary and middle school students countywide with a
safe place to participate in academic support and enrichment activities
during the critical hours before and after school.
We also offer extensive services to the community, including a free drop-in afterschool program and comprehensive technology center in North Park.
Transitional Housing & Youth Development - Includes the two Oz shelters for runaway and
troubled teens, and the two transitional living programs for homeless youth:
Turning Point, Mary's House (young women only), and Tommie's Place (for pregnant
and parenting youth 18-21).

How else is YFS funded?
YFS is primarily funded through government contracts and grants. However, this money does not always cover operating costs and there is limited flexible money to address specific needs of our programs. The Annual Support Campaign fills in these gaps.
